Hay is an absolute essential in the diet of rabbits and nearly all herbivores, so providing them with different ways to access their hay provides them with enrichment.

Unfortunately, most hay feeder bags on the market are made with fabrics that herbivores can't digest, such as cotton or even worse plastic fabrics (fleece etc). As rabbits and other small pets will always nibble at their furnishings, we want your pets to be safe by not ingesting harmful materials.

This is why we hand-sew using only the warp & weft jute threads from the hessian, as cotton and polycotton threads can be dangerous. The fabric is natural untreated hessian fabric as it is non-toxic and digestible, so can never cause intestinal blockages or illness.

Our heavy-duty bags are made from a tighter weave of hessian than our lightweight open-weave hessian hay bags, making these more durable for use by those pets who tug and pull a lot. This tugging behaviour tends to be more apparent if the haybag is the only hay feeder provided, or one of just a few. Of course, if you have a pet who chews everything as our Gaia does (although she's never chewed their haybags), if your pet does chew this, at least they won't be ingesting harmful cottons or plastics!

These bags are available in two sizes:

  • The small bags measure approximately 19cm wide (8 inches) by 23cm high (9 inches), which is ideal for smaller rabbits and guinea pigs, gerbils and other smaller pets.
  • The large bags measure approximately 28cm wide (11 inches) by 32cm high (13 inches), which is ideal for larger rabbits, pairs of rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas.

As every item is handmade and hand-sewn by us in our own workshop using natural materials, sizes may vary slightly.
