A part of the pea family, Common Vetch is an important British native pollinator plant which has tiny mauve coloured flowers which are loved by pollinators such as bees, butterflies, hoverflies, moths and beetles. Though it has a climbing and rambling habit, it will also grow sucessfully in containers, as long as it is given a frame to climb. We harvest these seeds ourselves from our own organic plot.
Vetch leaves and flowers make a tasty addition to the diet of rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets, as well as in small quantities for tortoises.
Our packets contain 50 seeds. They are grown entirely organically in the UK on our own plot.
As it is an annual, the best time to sow is during the spring (March to May), although do bear in mind that you will get much more foliage and many more flowers if you sow earlier rather than later in the year. You can grow vetch successfully in containers as well as planting out directly into the soil. Where ever you plant them, do be sure to give them a climbing frame!

- Ideal sowing season: March - May (presoak for 24 hours prior to sowing them)
- Soil: Chalky, loamy, clay and sandy (it is not fussy!)
- Position: Semi-shade or full sun
- Watering: Keep moist and well drained
- Germination: 10-21 days
